Heartstone at Tapalou is a child-led, self-directed learning program that honors the unique pace, process and perspective that each individual brings to a group.
We believe that the desire and ability to learn burns naturally within children and that our role is to provide encouraging conditions for them to flourish. The ten acres of land where we live and farm offer a diversity of gathering places for our participants to explore their curiosities, while we - Hanna and Andy - act as gentle navigators to incorporate whatever magic emerges in this group setting.
We live, work and learn on our farm as a family. After four seasons of hosting children’s Summer camps, we are encouraged to expand upon this experience through the creation of Hearthstone Learning Program. This fall, we are inviting kids to come and spend a day with us each week to deepen life skills, strengthen self-esteem, engage in play and foster authentic relationships.
A rapidly changing world requires our ability to respond with awareness, action and agility. These are qualities that we encourage and support in each other as we gather, share our visions, and set our course. Time together promotes trust in ourselves and each other and leads to fulfilling days of creation and joy.
We are inspired by the concept of Agile Learning Centers and have found much overlap with our educational philosophies. This framework provides resources that align with our values and guide our shared learning experience.
Children ages 8 - 14 (minimum 6, maximum 10 participants)
13 Sessions - Wednesdays - 09/09 through 12/16 including two days off (11/25 and TBD)
Cost: $1050 - $1200 sliding scale, paid in four installments ($150 non-refundable* deposit required upon enrollment)
*Your deposit will be refunded if we don’t meet enrollment of 6

1:00p - 3:00p : Afternoon Activity
3:00p - 3:30p : Closing Circle / Clean Up / Free Play
SAMPLE ACTIVITIES
Cooking from scratch in the farmhouse
Writing and performing original music
Making a keepsake box using basic carpentry
Building and enjoying outdoor play structures
Developing a small business
Creating and exhibiting an art portfolio
Engaging in improvisational theater
Working with flowers and herbs in a variety of creative ways
Connecting with animals (chickens, ducks and Banjo the dog)
Our semester will culminate with a celebration of festivity and accomplishment during the weekend of December 11.
We greatly look forward to our time here with this younger generation of people as we tend the fires of growth and understanding, together.
