The Guilford Local Food Market increases access to local food and grows markets for both Guilford farmers and other regional farms/food producers. The market has been operating out of the Guilford Central School for 5 years.  In 2016-2017 over $12,000 of local food was sold through the Local Market.

Market takes place on alternating Tuesdays throughout the school year.  As part of their Farm to School program the fifth grade classes helps operate the market.  Students learn about the local food system through their involvement.  Each market several students assist in sorting, weighing and setting up.  This year they are also working on promotional materials. 

Food is sourced from Guilford Farms (Circle Mountain Farm, Tapalou Guilds, Franklin Farm and Sunrise Farm). In addition food is also sourced from Food Connect's food hub.  Food Connects sources locally grown and produced food from within Windham County and neighboring counties.

How it Works  

  • You choose what you want to purchase and when you want to participate.

  • Members order online from an inventory of food items.  Members are emailed when the online market is open, they place their order and pick up their food the following week. 

  • Food is delivered to Guilford Central School where it is sorted and prepared for market pick up.

 

Payment

Members pay for their food when they pick up.  Members can pay in the following ways:

  • Cash
  • Check

  • EBT

5%, 10% or 20% service fee is charged based on family income.  The Market is funded through service fees and the Guilford Central School Farm to School budget.  

Folks paying with EBT are not charged a service fee.  If the service fee creates a financial hardship it can be waived on a case by case basis.

 

Enrollment

  1. Complete the Guilford Local Food Market Enrollment Form

  2. Receive directions for creating a Harvest to Market account (our online ordering platform)

  3. Create a Harvest to Market account

Once you have followed these two steps you will receive emails when market is open and you can begin to place orders. 

PLACING ORDERS

  1. After receiving a "Market is Open" email visit the Guilford Local Food Market website and place your order.

  2. You will immediately receive an email confirmation of your order, if you do not receive a confirmation you did not complete your order.  

Food Pick Up

  • Members are emailed a reminder the day before market.
  • Pick up is from 2:30-3:30pm on alternating Tuesday afternoons at Guilford Central School.
  • If you can't make the pick up window alternate arrangements can be made.
